generativity

There's a fairly new book out by one of our local luminaries, Stephen Post, in which he talks about the concept of "generativity" as one of the elements that elevates the level of play in the community. One quote that made me think of Kiwanis, and Key Club in particular, was this, on page 49:

Generativity predicts that we will be successful. It has a positive
impact that is not related to social class, IQ, or religiousness. However, teens
who are highly generative tend to end up in a higher social class.
